The only child of an Emirati family is permanently exempt from military service under new amendments to the National Service Law.
The State and Reserve Service Authority stated that some provisions of the Federal Law No. (6) of 2014 concerning the State and Reserve Service were amended.
The only child of a family, or the only child of a father or mother, is permanently exempt from military service, the officials explained via their social media platforms.
A man is not considered an only child if he has female siblings, provided this is proven by official documents from the competent UAE authorities.
Except for those who express their wish to enroll in national service upon fulfillment of other conditions and decisions issued under this Act. In this case, the son must complete his full military service and cannot be called to the front.
According to the National Military and Reserve Forces Federal Law No. 6 of 2014, as amended, all able-bodied Emirati men are required to complete their national service after obtaining approval from the National and Reserve Service Committee of the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces.
By law, the service is optional for women, regardless of their education.
According to Resolution No. 15 of 2022, part of the provisions of Resolution No. 6 of 2016 on amending the period of military service will be amended, and the period of military service for male recruits with high school graduation or equivalent education and above will be shortened to 11 years and a few months, for those who have not For those who have completed high school, this semester is three years.
According to the resolution, the term of military service for female recruits is 11 months.
