Bhutanese expatriate Thanding is busy serving coffee at an Emirati store – and his entry was selected in Mahzooz’s raffle on Saturday. He won Dh1 million.

He didn’t realize he had become a millionaire until his immediate supervisor called him into his office and told him he had won the lottery.

Tandin initially thought his supervisor was joking, but decided to check his Mahzooz account when he saw his friends congratulating him in their WhatsApp group chats and posting screenshots of his name in the live draw. To his shock, he saw a whopping Dh1 million in his account.

“I need to invest my money very carefully and consider a lot of factors before making a decision because I’m getting married soon and I’ll be using some of my winnings to pay for the wedding.

“I might also make some investments back home in Bhutan and help some of my friends who have been supporting me while I was in the UAE,” said Tandin, who has now lived in the country for five years.

A 37-year-old Bangladesh national residing in Ras Al Khaimah also won the grand prize in the 125th Mahzooz draw.

As part of the Mahzooz Gold Eid promotion, participants won various gold prizes totaling 2kg of gold during Ramadan. Bikash became the first Bangladeshi player to win a gold medal in the 1kg category.

Bikash is a barber and has been a regular participant in Mahzooz since its inception. “I am absolutely delighted to know that I am the lucky recipient of so much gold. This is a life-changing moment for me and I am so grateful.”
