Khalid has been bringing his experiences in other countries to a global audience through his YouTube channel and other social media platforms, where he has tens of thousands of followers.

As the world grappled with the pandemic for about two years, the festivities disappeared from the streets. With the festivities back, Khalid planned his trip to the Kingdom of God, aiming to bring its beautiful traditions to audiences around the world. Khalid said the pandemic had been tough and he was the happiest person to travel again after restrictions were lifted.

“I love traveling and discovering things that connect people and places. I love learning about different cultures, religions and celebrations and exploring what connects us all,” said Khalid, who has Thrissur completed three days, exploring Onam’s atmosphere, food and surrounding festivities.

In his experience in Kerala, what moved him most was the warm smiles of the people of Kerala.
“Kerala is like my home. Obviously for people here, someone in their family or in their circle of friends will be in the UAE and we can get in touch with them quickly. Apart from that, people here are always It’s about whether we’re comfortable and satisfied with the situation, whether it’s a meal or an event,” he said.

To celebrate Onam, Khalid laid a tapestry at a friend’s house while in the UAE. “I understand now why Malayans do pookkalam every year. It’s more like meditation. It’s so relaxing to put flowers in pookkalam,” he added. Khalid plans to record the world-famous Pulikali on Sunday and is doing a lot of preparations to bring it to a wide audience around the world.
