The UAE has launched its electricity-to-liquids roadmap, drawn up by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in collaboration with the World Economic Forum.
The Wam news agency reported that the PtL roadmap shows the financial, economic and environmental benefits of PtL in decarbonizing the UAE aviation industry.
Eng Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, attended a paper launch session titled “Power to Liquids Roadmap: Driving Aviation Energy Transition in the United Arab Emirates”.
He said that efforts to realize the principles of the 50th century and improve the country’s overall status, including in the energy sector, required greater cooperation between government authorities and the private sector.
The launch was also attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Power, Water and Future Energy Eng Yousef Al Ali, as well as several officials from the national airline and major companies in the sector.
Al Olama said that the UAE has made significant efforts to launch outstanding projects and initiatives in the energy sector, especially in clean energy, in support of the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve net zero by 2050 and in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
He added that the UAE is working closely with regional and international partners to achieve sustainability in the energy sector.
Published by the Forum’s Clean Skies Tomorrow initiative in partnership with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and ICF International, the white paper considers electro-hydraulic Sustainable Aviation Fuel (PtL SAF) production as the most carbon.
It said that PtL offers the UAE a unique opportunity to leverage domestic resources, infrastructure and expertise to grow and decarbonize the economy.
The UAE is in an excellent strategic position to create a world-leading PtL industry. The roadmap said the analysis showed that there would be economic benefit, environmental necessity and practicality to deploy PtL capabilities to decarbonize the aviation sector in the United Arab Emirates.
It added that the aviation industry is one of the UAE’s success stories, having a central role in the national and regional economy, contributing to diversification, tourism and supporting job creation.
