It will be the mission’s “first public event” since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic
More than 60 artists, mostly underrated and lesser-known names, are getting a platform to showcase their talents during the three-day celebration of India’s Independence Day at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
After the opening of the event, called the Azadi Festival, an embassy spokesman said it was the “first public event” the embassy has held since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The three-day event includes exhibitions, live painting, art classes, panel discussions, competitions, pottery workshops, cultural dance performances and children’s programs. The festival’s theme aligns with the celebration called “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, an initiative launched by the Indian government last year to mark the 75th anniversary of independence.
The spokesperson noted: “We have artists from the UAE and some have also sent their work from India. The three-day event is open to the public. The event will end on 15th August and the Indian ambassador will be the best Artwork to facilitate.”
The event was organised by ArtsCrafts – a platform started last year by Abu Dhabi resident Anil Kejriwal to promote the work of unknown artists. Kejriwal is a Chartered Accountant by profession and has held several events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai over the past few months.
“This is our first time exhibiting at the embassy. It is a big motivation for the artists, especially young talents and students, from Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir. We also have Indian classical dance performances by local artists. All artworks are based on The theme of India’s glorious past 75 years and its independence,” Kejriwal emphasized.
Until August 15th (Monday), a number of artists from all over the country, mainly emerging artists, will participate in different programs of the festival.
“I appreciate the cooperation of the community members. We have received positive feedback from visitors,” Kejriwal noted.
