UAE chief welcomes Israeli president to ‘second home’ in Abu Dhabi

Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with the President of the United Arab Emirates after speaking at the Global Forum on Outer Space in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

It was Herzog’s fourth meeting with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan since he became president, mainly for ceremonies.On Sunday, he became the first Israeli head of state visit bahrain.

Both Arab countries have agreed to normalize relations with Israel, with U.S. support, as part of the 2020 Abraham Accords.

“The UAE is the main lynchpin of the peace movement in the region,” Herzog said at the start of the meeting. He highlighted the broad support for the Abraham Accords within Israel and the need to strengthen ties and bring “more countries on board”.

Sheikh Mohamed thanked Herzog for “returning to your second home again” and was proud of the “very strong bridge” built between the two countries.

Earlier on Monday, Herzog delivered the keynote speech at the Abu Dhabi Space Debate, where policymakers from around the globe gathered to discuss the future of space. He pointed to his country’s cooperation with the US, Europe and other space agencies, particularly “our growing space partnership with the United Arab Emirates”.

“To give an inspiring example, the Venus satellite, a joint Israeli-French project, is now providing data for joint Israeli-UAE research,” Herzog said. -Spectral Imagery.

“In their first joint venture, the Israeli and UAE space agencies are now funding joint analysis of this data by Israeli and UAE scientists, which will help us better understand our global environment and collaborate to develop new solutions to Protect the green lungs of our planet,” he said.

The Israeli president also praised India’s “enormous technological capabilities” and “impressive space program” and urged cooperation to address “the urgent climate crisis in the Middle East and the Mediterranean”.

“I believe that the UAE, Israel and India, together with our friends and partners, can lead the way for the entire region,” he said.

Herzog also mentioned Israel’s TEVEL program, through which high school students, Jews and Arabs “are building, testing and launching nanosatellites into space and then using them to collect data and conduct experiments.”

Israel “invites all countries here to work with us to expand the program regionally and internationally,” he said.
