At its second meeting in 2023, the UAE Circular Economy Council will focus on accelerating the implementation of circular economy policies in four key sectors – manufacturing, food, infrastructure and transport.

The meeting discussed the main progress of circular economy. Plans proposed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Al Serkal Group, Borouge & Circularity and IBM were also reviewed.
The plan proposed by the Department of Climate Change and Environment addresses Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in setting standards, reporting and monitoring food loss and waste, and segregating waste from residential, commercial and institutional buildings at source. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s plan addresses several issues, including the standardization of EV charging systems in the country to ensure compliance with the best charging system standards and EV infrastructure in the country. The plan also envisages finalizing a standardized manual for electric vehicle infrastructure readiness, as well as green charging and biodirected charging. This also aims to determine the technical specifications for bi-directional charging with electric vehicles. The plan also explores options for deploying sustainable aviation fuel across the country.

“IBM” showcased its latest sustainable technology solutions, emphasizing the importance of artificial intelligence in enabling a circular economy and sustainable software, systems and supply chains.
