UAE Circular Economy Council opens Lootah biofuel plant

[ad_1]

The UAE Circular Economy Council inaugurated the Lootah Biofuel Plant in Dubai Industry City at its third meeting in 2022, chaired by Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

Leveraging agreements with public and private sector entities in the food and hospitality industry, the Lootah Biofuels plant collects used cooking oil, processes it and converts it into biodiesel using the latest international technology, competitive with regular diesel price of power.

The commissioning of the new plant and the consequent increase in biodiesel capacity by 100 tonnes per day will help the UAE achieve its goal of obtaining 5% of its transport fuel from food waste and non-renewable resources. The project is a model of efficient integrated waste management and will help accelerate the nation’s transition to a circular economy.

Yousif Saeed Lootah, Chairman of Lootah Biofuels, expressed his appreciation for the high priority given by the UAE leadership to promoting the transition to a circular economy, which is an important part of sustainable development.

“The circular economy drives the adoption of efficient and responsible production and consumption models and provides ample opportunities for growth and prosperity for companies that uphold sustainable values and practices, such as Lootah Biofuels,” he said.

“The transition to a circular economy helps drive sustainable economic development in line with the UAE’s vision, ensuring continued growth while preserving the environment and preserving natural resources, in addition to supporting efforts to reduce emissions and achieve net zero,” said Almheiri.

She added: “Innovative solutions play a key role in accelerating the transition. The Lootah Biofuels plant represents an excellent example of the practical application of circular principles and a prime example of the active involvement of the private sector in achieving the UAE’s goal of developing a circular economy.”

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, said: “The Lootah Biofuel Plant is an innovative model for converting edible oils into biofuels for energy production and reinforces efforts to transition to more sustainable energy sources and create new economies opportunities to drive the country’s transition to a more flexible and diverse economic model based on knowledge and innovation, and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”-TradeArabia News Service
