UAE: Covid cases, death toll rise after holidays; Eid al-Fitr celebrated safely-News

[ad_1]

After the Eid al-Fitr break last year, the average daily number of cases increased by 500% to 1,400.

There will be a six-day holiday on the occasion of Eid al-Adha in the UAE next week. We urge residents to observe all Covid safety measures and celebrate the holiday safely and responsibly.

Dr Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson of the UAE Health Department, said that after the past three holidays, the country’s daily number of Covid-19 infections and deaths has increased significantly.

She cited data from the Eid al-Fitr holiday in May of this year; New Year’s Eve celebrations; and last year’s Eid al-Adha.

She said that after the Hari Raya break last year, the average daily number of cases increased by 500% to 1,400.

Similarly, after the New Year’s Eve celebrations, the average daily cases increased by more than 200% to 3,700. The daily death toll caused by Covid-19 has increased by 300%.

After Eid al-Fitr in May this year, the average daily cases reported was 2,000, an increase of 60%. The daily death toll has increased by 100% to 6 people.

Dr. Farida said that the harsh statistics reinforce the fact that Covid safety is a shared responsibility.

She said: “Your commitment to Covid safety measures, especially during the holiday season, will help reduce the infection rate.”
