Residents will be prosecuted under local law if they discover any item or property that does not belong to them and keep it with intent to possess.

The UAE Public Prosecution has reminded people that under Article 454 of Federal Decree No. 31 of 2021, they can be fined not less than Dh20,000 or imprisoned for not more than two years.

By law, any finder of lost and/or abandoned property is obliged to submit such property or money to the police within 48 hours and not to exercise title to it; violations of this will result in criminal liability.

In recent social media posts, the Public Prosecution Service reiterated that anyone taking possession of lost property acquired by accident or force majeure is subject to the Crimes and Punishments Act.
