The positive psychological effects of the vaccine may play a role in the weeks after the second vaccination
A new study finds that people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 are less likely to feel stressed-UAE doctors and residents agree.
The study was conducted by the University of Southern California and published in the journal PLOS, highlighting the positive impact on mental health of people receiving two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Dr. Arun Kumar K, a psychiatrist at Bur Dubai Aster Clinic, said that vaccinated people may be less worried about being infected and become more active by pursuing social interaction and work and travel options.
“A study of 8,003 people in the United States showed that mental stress was reduced after vaccination, but they did not attribute it to the direct impact of the vaccine,” he said.
Dr. Laila Mohamadien, a psychiatrist at Medcare Hospital, said that stronger immunity may also help reduce stress.
Dr. Leila said: “The idea of immunity reduces the incidence of anxiety, reduces excessive worry about infection, makes social contact easier, thereby reducing isolation and making a person active.”
Healthcare experts also said that the positive psychological effects of the vaccine may be effective within two weeks to one month after the second vaccination.
“The first dose of the vaccine provides hope of immunity against Covid-19, thereby reducing the incidence of stress and anxiety,” said Dr. Leila.
Residents also proved the psychological benefits of the vaccine.
Atal Mohamed, a Moroccan expatriate and businessman living in Deira, said that his mental stress has been greatly reduced.
“Vaccination makes us feel relieved. Knowing that you are vaccinated not only builds our confidence in immunity, but also makes us believe that we can avoid complications,” he said.
Suhail Pehlawan Nuristhani, an Afghan expat and a dried fruit merchant in Al Ras, said he believes that vaccination allows people to carry out daily activities without any hindrance.
“We have both received two doses of the vaccine, and the UAE authorities have done a great job in vaccinating all residents. What I understand is that if I test positive for Covid-19, I won’t have too many complications. It makes me feel at ease and safe,” he said.
Healthcare experts urge residents to protect themselves from the disease in accordance with the procedures established by the authorities.
