UAE: Doctors took out large pieces of plastic from boy’s nostrils, ending his 2 years of ordeal-News

The smell of the child’s nose and mouth has been affecting his psychology.

A 10-year-old child who had had bad breath and foul nasal discharge for the past two years was finally treated. What was misdiagnosed as a dental hygiene problem turned out to be a piece of plastic stuck in the boy’s nasal cavity.

After an expert at the Al Mushrif Children’s Specialty Center in Abu Dhabi found the foreign body and removed it, she ended her child’s two-year ordeal.

Seha Health System Agency Ambulatory Healthcare Services stated that the boy also suffered from repeated upper respiratory tract infections.

“After visiting medical institutions in many regions and abroad, the common diagnosis hinted at unhealthy dental hygiene. Due to being excluded from social gatherings with family and friends, the child’s nose and mouth continued to emit foul smells and began to treat him. Has an adverse effect on his mental state,” Seha said.

The patient visited the Al Mushrif Children’s Specialty Center in the summer.

Dr. Mai Naif Al Shoufi, a specialist in otolaryngology, conducted a preliminary nasal examination and found no cause for the blockage of the right nostril and no cause for the smell. She then performed an endoscopic examination of her nose, which revealed a large object was trapped deep in the child’s right nostril.

The doctor immediately removed the foreign body, which turned out to be a piece of plastic.

The team managed to retrieve the object without any complications. The child will soon be able to breathe comfortably from both nostrils.

“The symptoms of the patient may be caused by various problems, some of which are more obvious than others. Considering the time that the child experiences these effects and the adverse effects it has on his mental health, we want to find the root cause of the problem and look for it. It is the cause of bad breath and runny nose. In addition, I hope to be able to treat the child so that he can return to his normal state,” said Dr. Al Shoufi.

The boy’s mother said that in the past two years, they felt very helpless. “We are very happy to leave this thing behind, because it has been haunting my son’s body and mind for a long time.”
