Meeting with inventors of technology patents registered with the USPTO and the only Arab member of the World Economic Forum Global Future Cybersecurity Committee since 2020 in Davos, Switzerland
In June 2021, His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a decree establishing the Dubai Digital Authority (DDA) and appointed Hamad Obeid. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori is its Director General. Strive to further strengthen the digital transformation of the emirate.
The decree empowers all independent entities of the Dubai government, such as Smart Dubai Government (SDG), Dubai Data Authority (DDE), Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) and Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC), under the jurisdiction of DDA.
The merger bid by Dubai’s visionary ruler has led to the blossoming of several Emirati talents whose potential is bearing fruit as the emirate aims to become the Silicon Valley of the Arab world, powered by the UAE.
Dr. Bushra AlBlooshi, Director of Research and Innovation at DESC, is one such precocious talent, whose achievements belie her humble demeanor.
She is the only Arab member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Future of Cybersecurity Committee in Davos, Switzerland since 2020, and chairs the DDA Digital Skills Committee.
Dr. AlBlooshi is the epitome of an Arab lady who can confidently balance family, health and workplace.
Born in Ras al Khaimah, she completed her undergraduate studies at UAE University in Al Ain, “the first university to offer a degree in information technology and software engineering”. She was among the first to sign up for the program.
Initially, however, she wanted to pursue a career in medicine before changing her mind and devoting herself to coding.
Dr. AlBlooshi reflects on the beginning of her incredible career path. “I graduated in 2005 with a 3.76 grade point average (GPA),” she said.
The demure young lady developed her skills in coding and cybersecurity at home and “never felt the need to study abroad”.
After graduating as a software developer, she joined ADNOC, a state-run oil and gas specialist based in Abu Dhabi.
“While ADNOC’s coding language didn’t match what I was taught in college, at one point I acquired the skills to overcome challenges through sheer grit, determination and perseverance,” she said.
She has been with ADNOC for two years and her talent is appreciated by the leadership team. She quickly improved her skills, such as completing several or more developmental programs that usually required at least a year.
In 2007, she joined Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), where she worked for three and a half years. In 2010, she joined Khalifa University for a graduate degree and completed her PhD in cloud cybersecurity in 2015 with mother and other domestic duties. She joined DESC in 2016 and was subsequently incorporated into DDA last year.
Dr. AlBlooshi is modest, refusing to talk about her outstanding achievement, a patent for cloud cybersecurity registered and approved by the USPTO.
She was full of praise for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Naha, the UAE’s founding father, “whose vision made our lives easier because he always believed in his people, not oil or natural resources. the power of”.
“Similarly, His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was a visionary. He started talking about transforming Dubai into a smart city at the turn of the new millennium, while Today’s DDA is the embodiment of this noble vision,” she added.
With Dubai immersed in Web 3.0 and the Metaverse, mother-of-six Dr. AlBlooshi is a big believer in the Make-it-in-the-Emirates movement that “the UAE can lead the way in exporting cutting-edge technology”.
She said: “It’s not about registering patents. It’s about the impact of patents on human life. I have a dream that one day niche areas such as cybersecurity technology will be invented in my beloved country for the common good Export.”
Technology is the biggest panacea in her life.
Give more power to Dr. AlBlooshi and her peers who are helping the “Make-it-in-the-Emirates” movement.
