The third edition of the Dubai Metro Music Festival kicked off on March 6, bringing together a unique group of innovative musicians from across the Arab world to perform at five of Dubai’s metro stations.

Brand Dubai, the creative arm of Dubai Media Office, partnered with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to present a week-long global music celebration from 6-12 March as part of the ongoing #DubaiDestinations campaign focused on highlighting the #DubaiArtSeason extraordinary experiences, events and activities.

Amina Taher, Senior Director, Brand Marketing, Dubai, said: “Dubai Metro Music Festival is a true celebration of music and cultural diversity. Audiences share their culture. It’s great to see how the festival celebrates the diversity and richness of Arabic music while showcasing Dubai’s inclusive spirit and creative energy.”

In a stunning performance, Egyptian artist and puppeteer Mohamed Fawzi Bakkar delights audiences with a unique puppet show that seamlessly blends music and visuals to transport audiences back to the performance of iconic singer Umm Kalthum. Bakkar’s ability to combine traditional cultural elements with modern puppetry techniques creates a truly one-of-a-kind show.

“It’s an honor to perform at the Dubai Metro Festival,” Bakkar said. “I hope my performance helps keep Umm Kalthum’s legacy alive and inspires a new generation of artists in Dubai.”

Eman Al Raeesi is an accomplished Emirati pianist and electric guitarist who captivates audiences with her electric guitar performances. Her unique and innovative approach to music makes her stand out at the festival.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my music with the people of Dubai. Music is a powerful medium for creative expression and it has the ability to touch the hearts and minds of people from all backgrounds. The Dubai Metro Music Festival is a fantastic show for musicians like myself platform and I am excited to be one of the musicians performing here,” said Al Raeesi.

Self-taught Saudi musician Shadi L. Harbi mesmerized audiences with a dazzling performance on agarwood. Blending Middle Eastern traditions with contemporary styles, he has garnered widespread acclaim for his unique performances on traditional instruments.

“I am honored to share my passion for agarwood with the world,” said L. Harbi. “I hope my music inspires others to explore the beauty of the instrument and the rich cultural heritage it represents.”

Other Arab musicians who wowed audiences at this year’s festival included Lebanese music performer and composer Marcel Ghrayeb, who is playing santuran ancient instrument; Radi Saiqalli from Jordan, playing the harmonica; and Lara Zaid, an Iraqi-Canadian, a young musician playing a classical piece law (a traditional stringed instrument).

More than 20 musicians from the UAE, the region and around the world will perform at the Dubai Metro Music Festival. Shows take place at five Dubai Metro stations – Union, Mall of Emirates, Burjuman, Financial Center and Sobha Realty from 16:00 to 22:00. All performances rotate throughout the week-long festival to cover five subway stations.
