Sharjah Police have revealed that a tourist boat capsized at Khor Fakkan Beach due to repeated violations by its operator. A Indian expatriate dies at 38and three others, including a seven-year-old, were injured in Friday’s incident.
During the long Eid weekend with offices and schools closed, they went boating. Special teams rescued 16 passengers from the boat, police said.
Colonel Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, chief of police in the Eastern Region, said the perpetrators of the accident had been handed over to the public prosecution for further legal action.
He called on boat operators to follow security and safety procedures and stay within the allowed number of passengers. The official stressed that those on board must wear life jackets.
Police were notified of the incident at 3.40pm. Multiple rescue teams, including police and medical staff, rushed to the scene.
Four people on board, including children, were injured and rushed to hospital. One of them, Abhilash, died in hospital. The expatriate from the southern Indian state of Kerala is survived by a wife and daughter.
Earlier, social workers told Khaleej Times, child remains in critical condition and is recovering in the intensive care unit (ICU), while others have been discharged.
