(Menarfin– Khaleej Times) UAE has declared 16 February as Career Day for Workers in the Nuclear and Radiation Sector.The announcement was made at a media briefing in Abu Dhabi on Thursday after the UAE Cabinet approved the annual commemoration of the day to recognize the efforts, sacrifices and duties of those working in the nuclear and radiation sector.
The proposal has been submitted to the cabinet by the Federal Agency for Nuclear Regulation (FANR).
According to the authority, the Professional Day aims to raise awareness and share knowledge on the UAE’s achievements and significant progress in the development of the nuclear and radiation sector.
It also aims to celebrate the work and efforts of professionals who have helped the UAE’s nuclear energy program grow at a commendable rate, making the country a model for other countries looking to adopt a nuclear energy program.
More than 3,000 employees work at the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE, while FANR employs more than 250 workers. Other professionals working in the nuclear and radiation sector include police officers, health workers and others.
Baraka Unit 1 License
Professional Day is celebrated on 16 February each year to mark the day FANR issued a license to operate Unit 1 of the UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in 2020, making the UAE the first country in the region to build and operate a nuclear power plant. nuclear reactor.
The Barakah nuclear power plant is now the largest single source of clean electricity in the region, with two commercially operating units.
Speaking at the event, Hamad Ali Al Kaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Vice-Chairman of the FANR Management Committee, said: “This annual celebration of Professional Day will highlight the stories, achievements and tireless efforts of workers in the successful UAE nuclear and radiation sector. Efforts: In 2008, the UAE launched a peaceful nuclear program that has been developing for years.
“The UAE owes its success to human capital – the most valuable capital – which has been the cornerstone of the programme. This includes professionals, workers in the nuclear and radiation sectors, working in the public and private sectors, industry, healthcare and more of Emiratis and expats.”
According to a Cabinet resolution, FANR will lead the organizational matters related to the Professional Day and its annual celebration, in close coordination with all relevant entities. The day is expected to encourage young people and students to increase their interest in these important fields.
The day will raise community awareness of the efforts and achievements of nuclear and radiation workers, thereby furthering scientific advancement and knowledge transfer, in line with the UAE Government’s vision “We UAE 2031”.
