Starting today (August 5), residents who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 are among the 10 categories of foreigners allowed to fly to the UAE from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria and Uganda.

The new safety notice issued by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates (GCAA) clarified that for this type of vaccine, two doses of vaccine must have been vaccinated in the UAE.

10 types of residents who are allowed to fly

The GCAA document contains a complete list of the categories of residents allowed to fly to the UAE from restricted countries. these are:

1. UAE citizens and their first-degree relatives.

2. Diplomatic personnel between the UAE and applicable countries.

3. The official delegation must be approved in advance.

4. UAE residents holding a gold or silver residence permit.

5. Personnel sponsored by international participants, exhibitors and event organizers of Expo 2020.

6. UAE residents who are fully vaccinated in the UAE.

7. Residents who have not been vaccinated are limited to the following categories:

-Medical staff working in the UAE, including doctors, nurses and technicians.

-Staff of the UAE’s education sector and teachers working in schools, universities and other educational institutions.

-Students currently studying in the UAE.

-Humanitarian cases (family reunion with valid residence visa after approval by relevant authorities).

-Staff of federal and local governments and authorities.

-People who need to continue treatment in the UAE.

8. Crew members of foreign airlines.

9. Businessmen and women entrepreneurs, provided that they have the approval of the General Security Administration of Ports, Borders and Free Zones; and the head of the senior committee of the relevant emirate’s emergency, crisis and disaster management team.

10. Employees who belong to important functions are classified according to the Federal Status and Citizenship Administration.

PCR testing requirements

For exempt categories, a negative PCR test result must be performed within 48 hours from the date of departure. The test must be carried out by an accredited laboratory with a QR code. Passengers must also undergo a rapid PCR test before boarding.

The flight operator must ensure compliance with all requirements. Unless compliance is ensured, they must not “allow anyone on board.” They must also send “unauthorized persons who have arrived in the UAE (returned) back to their point of origin”.
