It is unclear whether this is the case. The NCEMA statement clearly mentions that the vaccine dose must be injected in the UAE.

However, the dedicated webpage of the Federal Identity and Citizenship Administration (ICA)—where stranded residents must obtain approval to fly back—listed seven vaccines. This list is located under the “Vaccine Information” tab.

Are unvaccinated residents allowed to return?

Residents working in key sectors are among the unvaccinated foreigners who are allowed to return. The following categories are allowed to return regardless of their vaccination status:

>> Medical staff working in the UAE: doctors, nurses and technicians

>> Teachers from universities, colleges, schools and research institutes

>> UAE students

>> Employees of federal and local government authorities

>> Humanitarian cases, provided that they have valid residency rights

>> People receiving treatment in the UAE

What is the procedure for returning stranded residents?

According to NCEMA, exempt residents Must be approved by ICAThe approval can be obtained from the ICA website.

They must have a negative result of a PCR test performed no later than 48 hours after the departure time. The test must be carried out in an accredited laboratory, and the result must have a QR code.
