UAE Foundation and Accuro sign MoU to reduce waste

The Emirates Foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding with Accuro, a world-class, cost-effective provider of food and support services based in Dubai, to undertake road testing efforts that may help reduce food loss and waste.

The UAE Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi, launched Ne’ma, a national food loss and waste initiative earlier this year, which aims to act as a coordinating and National efforts to reduce food loss and waste by 50% by 2030.

Ahmed Talib Al Shamsi, CEO of the Emirates Foundation, said in the statement: “Through a series of collaborations with local, regional and international agencies, our goal is to directly target food loss and waste reduction, whether at farms, manufacturers or distribution. business, retailer, restaurant or household. This MoU with Accuro will help us uncover the root causes behind current behaviour and allow us to develop a ‘nudge’ pilot strategy around responsible food purchasing, storage, Preparation and consumption establish new social norms.”

UAE-wide baseline

He explained that establishing a UAE-wide baseline for food loss and waste will provide the means to quantify issues, identify potential hotspots and make informed decisions to better address food loss and waste.

He added: “The Ne’ma initiative aims to raise public awareness of the problems that arise and change current waste-related behaviours, promoting more positive and sustainable habits that help protect us in accordance with the UAE’s national food Valuable food resource Safety strategy to halve food waste by 2030. Accuro will support Ne’ma by providing a range of strategies aimed at reducing food loss and waste in employee canteens and cafeterias Staff provided coaching and training to measure and record food waste data during the pilot, and we expect our collaboration to bear fruit over the next few years, supporting the behavioural changes we aspire to achieve.”
