The premiere Sharjah Rights Connection Awards will be divided into two distinct categories: one for individual professionals selling translation rights with publishing companies; second, for independent professionals or those working with specialized agencies, selling book rights to publishers dealers and other licensors.

Announcing the new awards, SBA Chairman Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri said: “Over the past decade, the SBA has proudly placed rights transactions at the centre of our activities, aptly reflecting its central role in the publishing industry. Protecting creators Copyright and related rights are critical to disseminating knowledge and ensuring the sustainability of the global publishing industry.”

Launched in 2011, the Publishers Conference established the Copyright Translation Grant Program to support translation of works in all languages. SIBF translation grants have enabled the publication of 1672 books in 41 languages. “Rights professionals play a key role in protecting the intellectual capital of ideas from infringement or unauthorized use, enabling authors and creators to work freely and enhance their creativity,” added Al Ameri.
