UAE grants massive waiver for one-year visa to remote workers; here are the details

DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates offers great relief to all those planning to stay in the emirate for more than a year, as they can apply for a visa from outside the emirate.

The UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has announced that those interested in obtaining a virtual work residence visa in the country do not need to be physically present in the UAE when applying for the visa.

Those who want to work remotely in the UAE can live in the UAE for a year on a renewable visa. After the visa is approved, the applicant should enter the UAE within 60 days to go through the residence visa procedures, otherwise the residence permit will become invalid.

To apply for a telework visa, you must provide proof that you are working remotely for an organization outside of the UAE and that your monthly income is US$3,500 (Three thousand and five hundred US dollars, or its equivalent in other currencies).

Additionally, in order to be eligible for a virtual work residence visa, aspirants must possess a passport valid for at least six months, a recent photo and a health insurance policy covering their residence in the UAE.

To apply for the virtual work program, the procedure is as follows:

If you work for a company, you need:

• Provide proof of employment with a valid contract for one year
• Earn minimum wage of at least $5,000 per month
• Provide last month’s salary slip and bank statements for the previous three months.

If you are a business owner, you will need:

• Provide proof of company ownership for more than one year
• Average monthly income of $5,000
• Provide bank statements of the company account for the previous three months.
