UAE has tools and resources ‘good at organ donation’

[ad_1]

As the country joins the world on August 13 to mark World Organ Donation Day, the UAE is taking practical steps to regulate organ transplants according to the highest quality standards and ethics of medical practice.

Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Deputy Minister of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), stressed that the UAE has the necessary resources, tools and expertise to excel in implementing the National Organ Transplantation Programme, which includes highly qualified medical cadres, state-of-the-art of medical facilities and cutting-edge technological infrastructure, as well as international partnerships with the most prestigious organ transplant specialties.

Olama reiterated the need to continuously strengthen national efforts to promote and improve the transfer and transplantation process of human organs and tissues on the one hand, and provide technologically advanced health services to patients in need of human organ or tissue transplants on the other.

National Center

In 2020, the UAE established the National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Regulatory Centre under MoHAP. In addition to supporting the UAE’s health system, the centre also contributes to strengthening medical and social care for organ donation and transplantation in accordance with international quality standards and medical ethics.

The establishment of the centre is a major step forward in strengthening and complementing the National Organ Transplantation Programme, which gives any UAE resident over the age of 21 the opportunity to express his/her wish to donate an organ in the event of a brain death. In addition to having a positive impact on the lives of donors and recipients, the initiative has benefited many patients and gave them new hope.

Innovation steps

Ahmed Ali Al Dashti, Assistant Under-Secretary for Support Services, stressed that the UAE is making every effort to develop and standardize organ transplantation and supports the country’s excellence in delivering treatment options.

“We are committed to taking incremental and creative steps to strengthen the integration of our health systems in accordance with the best international quality standards,” said Al Dashti.

He emphasized that organ donation has wide-ranging advantages, such as promoting family harmony and community cohesion, while also promoting the principles of social cooperation and solidarity. — arab trade news agency
