ISLAMABAD: The UAE has provided assistance to the government of Pakistan’s Sindh province in building homes for victims of the devastating 2022 floods that killed more than 1,700 people and affected some 33 million.
The announcement was made after a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah and UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi in Karachi on Saturday. Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, Consul General of the UAE in Karachi, and Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to CM of Sindh Province, were also present.
During the meeting, the UAE ambassador assured the Chief Minister of Sindh of their support and commitment to assist the provincial government in building homes for flood victims, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office and confirmed by the UAE Embassy. “The chief minister of Sindh and the UAE ambassador have reached an agreement on the project and details are expected to be finalized soon,” an embassy spokesman said in a message to reporters.
The two officials also agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations and trade between the two countries. The UAE Ambassador highlighted the interest of Emirati industrialists in investing in Sindh, demonstrating the potential for economic cooperation and growth.
Pakistan maintains strong diplomatic, economic and defense ties with the UAE.
