Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Member of Dubai Council, presented the winners of the seventh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Prize.
The award aims to contribute to knowledge-based economic growth and sustainable development.
Sheikha Latifa said: “In line with Dubai’s vision for social, cultural and economic development, the awards aim to promote knowledge, innovation, creativity and enterprise growth in the region and beyond. initiatives aimed at growth, especially by leveraging young talent.”
In the organization category, the award recognized the UAE Mars Mission’s Hope Probe, the first Arab mission to reach Mars orbit in 2021, and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Conference for promoting the relationship between peoples and cultures of the world. role in knowledge exchange.
Winners in the individual category included Dr. Zhang Yongzhen, who was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the control and prevention of rabies and hemorrhagic fever. The award also recognizes his leadership in sequencing and publishing the genome of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, which enabled rapid research in many locations and led to the development of a vaccine.
The ceremony also honored biochemist and researcher Katalin Kariko, Ph.D., for her contributions to mRNA technology and the development of a Covid-19 vaccine, and Dr. Drew Weissman, for her contribution to the development of modified mRNA technology used in a coronavirus vaccine.
Global Knowledge Index 2022 Results
During a ceremony held at the Hilton Al Habtoor City, Dubai, Sheikha Latifa also unveiled the results of the 6th Global Knowledge Index 2022, the only index in the world that measures knowledge competitiveness. The 2022 edition of the index, published in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), covers 132 countries. The UAE tops the technical education index in the sixth edition of the index.

The award ceremony of the 7th Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Prize and the announcement of the results of the 6th Global Knowledge Index 2022 took place on the sidelines of the Youth Knowledge Forum, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh And attended Ratifah bint Muhammad.
