An 89-year-old Chilean police organization is doing what it can to ensure its 300 citizens are properly cared for in the UAE, a senior official said Kalij Times.
Chilean Police Commissioner in Abu Dhabi Richard Biernay Arriagada revealed that the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI), which is attached to the Chilean Embassy in Abu Dhabi, cooperates with local law enforcement agencies and Interpol, Combat illegal activities with international links.
On the occasion of PDI’s 89th anniversary, Biernay is dedicated to Cali era on its role in the UAE.

The Chilean investigative police are civilian police in Chile. Founded in 1933, it is one of two police agencies in Chile, along with the law enforcement police: the Chilean Gendarmerie. The PDI is the main enforcement agency of the Chilean Public Ministry in criminal investigations.
PDI works with law enforcement agencies around the world on security, organized crime, human trafficking, large-scale economic crime and money laundering.
According to records kept by the Chilean consulate in Abu Dhabi, about 300 Chileans currently live in the UAE. “The vast majority of them live in Dubai and a few are in Abu Dhabi,” Birnay said.
What is the exact role of PDI in the UAE?
Biernay is a police officer with 26 years of service in the agency and an immigration and international police specialist. He said the PDI oversees the identification of Chileans and foreigners living in Chile and cooperates with the authorities on immigration matters related to background checks and validity of residency.
It supports missions by interviewing foreigners who apply for tourist visas to travel to Chile. “PDI also collaborated to confirm records of Chileans residing in GCC countries by consulting the computer systems of PDI, INTERPOL and other internal sources,” he added.
“We also support the identification of Chileans to obtain emergency documents.

“Every time a Chilean citizen resident or visitor in the UAE has an emergency, they contact the Chilean mission in Abu Dhabi. The consul decides how the consular department team or the police commissioner can work together to help our nationals,” said Bill Nay.
PDI has several areas of investigation, such as cybercrime, environmental crime, human rights, and crime officials.
“The department also addresses various issues facing Chileans in the UAE,” he added.
PDI’s relationship with the UAE
PDI is in constant communication with various authorities and other relevant organisations such as Dubai Police, Abu Dhabi Police, Ministry of Interior and Interpol Abu Dhabi, as well as police attachés from other countries in the UAE.
“From March 14th to 17th this year, PDI participated in the World Police Summit organized by Dubai Police in Dubai. The Chilean Investigative Police PDI spoke as one of the speakers through the Director General Sergio Muñoz Yáñez, through the PDI Police known as “MT0” mode (em, you, zero or microflow zero),” he added.
From 13-17 March 2022, PDI participated in the UAE SWAT Challenge in Dubai through its SWAT team. Biernay said: “PDI believes that international cooperation is essential in the fight against organized and emerging crime. Chilean detectives are currently present in more than 18 countries through attache offices and contacts.”
