UAE: How Beeah is empowering students and communities to help shape a green future – News

The group plans to forge more partnerships and support various post-COP28 climate action initiatives aimed at helping the UAE achieve its Sustainable Development Goals

Sharjah-based Beeah Group is a leading sustainability pioneer in the region and is undertaking several initiatives to raise awareness and engage community members and institutions, including schools, in shaping a sustainable future.

At the World Future Energy Summit held during the recently concluded Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the group launched a new business vertical – Beeah Education.

Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO of Beeah Group, said the new initiative consolidates and strengthens its efforts to recognize and empower individuals, schools, institutions, companies and government entities in the field of sustainable development.

“Beeah Education brings together several programs designed to raise awareness and engage people and institutions in shaping a sustainable future. These programs will include the Sustainability Academy and Beeah’s Future Pioneers Award,” Al Huraimel told Khaleej era.

“Beeah Education will lead the Institute for Environmental Management and Sustainability (IEMS) Academy, a training and certification organization for professional and vocational programs designed to prepare individuals for careers in sustainability. Our commitment to Beeah Education The vision is to further empower individuals, organizations and students in schools and universities to make a sustainable impact now and into the future.”

Later this year, Beeah Education, an initiative of the School of Sustainability, will host the fourth Grand Battery Challenge.

“The Great Battery Challenge, in partnership with Duracell, engages schools and students in collecting used batteries. The competition instills the habit of disposing of batteries correctly while encouraging contributions to a circular economy. The school that collects the most used batteries is awarded, and in last year’s competition 2,000 kg of used batteries were collected.”

Al Huraimel pointed to 2022 as a “phenomenal” year with several milestones, including the launch of a new brand identity as an international holding group.

“We have launched several projects and established partnerships, contributing to sustainable development and innovation in the UAE and the wider region.”

Last year, Beeah Group sent New Group Headquartersthe Office of the Future, one of the most sustainable and intelligent buildings in the world, is setting a new benchmark for the workplace of the future.

The office is powered by solar energy and integrated with next-generation technology, it aims to achieve net zero emissions.

“As we pursue our ambition to accelerate sustainable impact globally, the new headquarters will also serve as a blueprint for shaping the smart, sustainable cities of the future.”

Another important achievement was the inauguration of the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy Plant, First commercial-scale plant of its kind in the Middle East and the first project for Emirates Waste Energy, a joint venture with Masdar.

The group’s waste processing and materials recovery business, Beeah Recycling, has added a new Solid Recycled Fuel (SRF) facility at its Integrated Waste Management Center in Al Sajaa. Additionally, a joint venture between Beeah Digital and Khazna Data Centers was launched in Sharjah, the first Tier 3 data center.

“We are also expanding our presence in Egypt in 2022. Our waste collection and urban cleaning business Beeah Tandeef has partnered with Green Planet to sign a landmark 10-year agreement to advance sustainable waste in Sharm El Sheikh management. The contract, which came into force shortly before COP27, sees us implementing a future-proof waste management strategy in line with Egypt’s sustainable development agenda,” he said of the group’s participation in COP27 in Egypt.

At COP27, Beeah Group also became the first organization in the UAE to sign the ZEV Manifesto, announcing its commitment to transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) and contribute to national and global net-zero emissions targets.

In October, Beeah Environment Services – the Group’s environmental consulting, research and innovation business, Launched Marasi, a new online platform that simplifies, tracks and analyzes different types of waste from ports. Last December, Beeah Group and Chinook Sciences partnered with Airwater to produce fuel cell-grade hydrogen from waste wood and plastic.

After successfully participating in COP27, the group is preparing for COP28, which will be held in the UAE.

“As we look forward to starting a new chapter of growth, we hope to engage with international delegations and seek new avenues for action on climate change. We also hope to strengthen cooperation, build strong partnerships, and support various climate action initiatives after COP28 , these initiatives are aligned with the sustainable development goals of the UAE and the region.”

Al Huraimel pointed to Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week as a platform for critical dialogue on potential collaborations, expansion and diversification.

“By 2023, we will continue to expand the reach and scope of the various projects we launched in 2022 and strengthen our presence in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. We will diversify into new business verticals to create a sustainable quality of life for all,” added Al Huraimel.
