The Smart Driving Test System (SDTS), used to test new drivers in Abu Dhabi, is an automated driving behavior assessment that scores candidates against predefined testing criteria. The artificial intelligence system captures every movement the driver takes during the test drive.

“As soon as the driver opens the door, the system kicks in. The camera records everything from seat/mirror adjustments to speeding, lane changes, keeping a safe distance, obeying traffic signs and more,” said Anas Al Zghoul, Head of R&D, MEA, Tatweer.

Tatweer is participating in the Dubai World Police Summit organized by Dubai Police at the World Trade Centre. The summit provided a platform to discuss current challenges facing police forces, as well as the latest technological advancements, strategies and innovations in law enforcement and security.

SDTS cars feature state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology as well as advanced sensors and cameras. “We installed nine cameras with many sensors in the car. The module reads data from the vehicle’s computer controller area network (CAN) data. Of the nine cameras, four are mounted on each side for Panoramic bird’s-eye views, two mounted on the front and rear windshields, are used to record vehicles on the road and driving capabilities during the drive,” Zghloul said.

“The other two cameras are installed on the front and rear glass panels. The camera is installed at the front to monitor the driver’s gaze and eye movements etc. when changing lanes into a roundabout. It can monitor whether the driver has undergone the mandatory check,” Zghloul said. added.

Tatweer management believes that it has introduced a new innovative concept of driving permits, where automation and process standardization ensure accuracy, efficiency, evidence and timely monitoring capabilities. “This ensures transparency and reduces human error by eliminating human interference,” Zghloul said.

The cameras, sensors and all AI modules are connected to a panel at the rear of the vehicle, which transmits the data to the center for evaluation.

System Features

Fully automated process for evaluating driving behavior based on predefined test criteria.

A centralized data unit that reads data input from all system components, including equipment, sensors, vehicle information (OBDII), etc., and then processes the data through machine learning algorithms to extract the applicant’s test faults.

Test results are verified by inspectors and operators for double checking, acceptance or rejection.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is a state-of-the-art technology that uses image processing algorithms to recognize road features to accurately assess applicant responses and decisions.

The system generates reports on different test numbers, test results, applicant characteristics, hardware/software health, etc.

The system integrates the latest GIS technology to report and monitor the exact location of applicants in real time.

The system allows supervisors to monitor the location of tests and vehicles in a GIS platform.

System displays applicant’s scores and test results with pass/fail status supported by video evidence of applicant errors for future use and verification
