Turkish Ambassador Tugay Tuncer said that Türkiye regards the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as an important strategic partner.
“The UAE and Turkey have an enduring strategic partnership that is still strengthening and contributing to prosperity, peace and stability in the region,” Tunser said in an interview with the UAE’s state news agency WAM.
“The UAE is an important strategic partner of Turkey,” he said, lauding the extraordinary development of relations between the two countries in less than two years.
Tuncer said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to the UAE and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s visit to Ankara have strengthened relations between Ankara and Abu Dhabi.
“President Erdogan’s visit to the UAE resulted in nearly 27 cooperation agreements in various fields including investment, economy, defence, health, agriculture, transportation, advanced technology, climate action, culture and youth,” he added.
The Turkish diplomat said non-oil trade between the two countries would reach about $19 billion in 2022.
“The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries will further facilitate their cooperation,” he added.
“The UAE and Turkey intend to increase their non-oil commercial transactions to $40 billion within five years,” Tuncer said.
The Turkish ambassador reiterated Turkey’s support for the UAE to host the UN climate summit COP28.
“The UAE and Turkey share a common approach to climate change,” he said. “The UAE’s strategic goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.”
Erdogan held talks with bin Zayed in Istanbul on Saturday. The Emirati leader joined world leaders in congratulating the Turkish president on his re-election in the May 28 runoff.
