UAE immigration authorities on Friday announced the imposition of a visa ban on Nigerians wishing to enter the country, adding that all applications submitted were rejected with non-refundable fees.

According to a notice to Nigerian trading partners, including travel agencies, the authorities in the emirate of Dubai announced that “all Dubai applications submitted are now rejected. This is common for Nigerians and approvals are currently suspended.”

“Please advise your client to resubmit the C2=A0 application after both governments resolve the issue.”

The announcement comes more than a month after the UAE stopped issuing tourist visas to Nigerians under the age of 40, with the exception of those applying for family visas.

While no specific reasoning behind the Gulf state’s decision was given, it could be related to a diplomatic spat between the two countries last year when Nigerians were barred from applying for work permits and visa restrictions were imposed on them.

according to Business Insiderthere are also cases of Nigerians stranded in the country, some of whom “suffered degrading conditions. Most notably, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out”.

Earlier this month, a Nigerian woman Sentenced Jailed for a year after she posted a photo Twitter In August, social media went viral showing how she and other Nigerian nationals were detained at Dubai International Airport despite her claim to have a valid visa.
