Bureau of Meteorology issues red alert for South Indian state

Five flights from the Middle East bound for Kozhikode International Airport have been diverted to Kochi Airport due to bad weather.
The diverted flights include Air Arabia from Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, Indian Express from Abu Dhabi, Gulf Air from Bahrain and Qatar Airways from Doha.
The four flights (except Qatar Airways) returned to Kozhikode Airport due to better weather conditions in Kozhikode.
The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday declared a red alert for eight districts in Kerala as heavy rains continued to hit the state.
Some areas have entered a red alert state, indicating that there will be more than 20 centimeters of heavy rain to extremely heavy rain within 24 hours.

An orange alert (6cm to 20cm of heavy rain) has been declared for the rest of the districts, except for Trivandrum, where a yellow alert has been issued. A yellow alert indicates rainfall between 6 and 11 cm.
The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall in Kerala from Aug. 4 to 8, and warned that isolated torrential rains may occur in some areas of the state.
