UAE: Indian actress arrested on drug charges freed, lawyer says – News

Lift the travel ban on her name and she can fly out as soon as she receives her passport from the authorities

The Indian actress, who was detained at Sharjah airport on suspicion of drug possession, has been cleared by the courts, according to her lawyer, Mohammed Al Redha, lawyer and legal adviser of Al Redha and Company. “She was cleared of all charges on June 12,” Redha told Khaleej Times, reaffirming their innocence from the beginning.

The 27-year-old was set up by two men who “tricked” her with false promises of auditions and a role in a Hollywood web series, according to her lawyer. She reportedly traveled to the UAE to get an acting gig impression.

The two men tricked the actress into traveling to Sharjah with a trophy containing drugs concealed in its metal plate. When the woman landed at Sharjah airport from Mumbai on April 1, she was arrested by authorities for drug possession.

Al Redha said prosecutors found the actress’ claims to be true after a thorough investigation. “They found out that the circumstances of her being framed were real. She did bring marijuana into the UAE; however, she knew nothing about it and had no malice, and the two lied to her. “Everything was vindicated from the port of entry, exiting the airport, to going back to immigration after a suspicion that cannabis was given to her without her knowledge,” the lawyer added.

While she was in custody, investigators collected a urine sample from her for analysis, and lab reports confirmed no traces of drug use.

Al Redha mentioned that the actress’s travel ban has been lifted and soon her name will be removed from the blacklist for denying entry and exit. “We have requested the return of her passport and it is expected to be returned tomorrow, June 14,” Al Redha said.

“Once she received her passport, she was free to travel,” Al Redha added.
