The Indian Embassy in the UAE has warned expats to be aware of fraudulent social media handles and email IDs being used to deceive expats. The delegation stated that some were using @embassy_help (Twitter) and ind_embassy.mea.gov@protonmail.com to defraud “innocent Indian nationals”.

Criminals commit fraud by ‘sending messages and receiving money’ by arranging foreigners to travel from the UAE to India.

“All Indian nationals are hereby notified that the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has no association with the Twitter account @embassy_help and the email ID ind_embassy.mea.gov@protonmail.com,” the mission said in a statement.

The embassy said all official email IDs, Twitter handles, Facebook IDs and phone numbers were mentioned on its official website.

“It is advisable to cross-check embassy email IDs and social media account details on our website to avoid falling into the trap of criminals. Please note that email IDs for all Indian missions/posts always end with the domain @mea.gov .in,” the delegation added.

The embassy added that @IndembAbuDhabi is its only official Twitter account. “Beware of any communications received from entities posing as embassies or their officials.”
