An Indian expat living in Abu Dhabi has won AED1 million in a digital draw organised by retail giant LuLu Group International as part of the Mall Millionaire campaign.
From April to the first week of August this year, shoppers who spend at least AED 200 at any of the nine participating LuLu malls in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain will receive a coupon number to participate in Big draws and other weekly prizes.
Selvarani Deniel Joseph, an Indian mother of two, won one of her 80 coupons this week. However, she was on holiday in her home state of Tamil Nadu when the mall management tried to inform her of the windfall. And she couldn’t get through on the phone.
“It was very dramatic. The coupon was registered with my wife’s mobile number,” her husband Arulsekar Antonysamy told Cali era.

“When the organizer tried to call my wife, I think on Wednesday, her phone couldn’t get through. In India, my wife took the UAE SIM card out of her phone. Luckily, her WhatsApp was working. After unsuccessful attempts to reach her on the phone, the organizer tried to make a WhatsApp call and sent a voice message. Luckily she was checking her WhatsApp at the time. My wife reached out to me when I was in Abu Dhabi hand.”
The couple remain suspicious of fraudsters and are wary of sharing any personal information. But organizers provided details about the event and broke the news that Selvarani had won Dh1 million.
“We were persuaded, my wife shared my phone number and I was here to pick the winner’s prize. My wife is still in India. It’s a gift from God,” said Anthony Sammy.
The couple have lived in Abu Dhabi for 14 years and always enjoy shopping at LuLu.
“We worked at TCA in Abu Dhabi City for six years. Al Wahda Mall has always been our favourite. We later moved to Mussafah and now we shop at Mazyad Mall. We won almost 80 coupons in this draw .”

The couple have two children, a son studying engineering in Tamil Nadu and a daughter in Year 12 at a school in the city.
“I will use the winning amount for my child’s studies. I want my daughter to do MBBS. We also want to help those in need,” added Anthony Sammy.
The second season of “Mall Millionaire”, held two years later, was a concept proposed by Line Investments and Property, the shopping mall development and management division of Lulu Group.
In addition to the grand prize, there are several weekly draws with prizes of AED 25,000.
The event was organised in partnership with Retail Abu Dhabi, the retail platform of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT-Abu Dhabi).
“The success of the Mall Millionaire campaign is a testament to the post-pandemic economic recovery,” said V. Nandakumar, Marketing and Communications Director of Lulu Group.
