The United Arab Emirates and the Italian Republic announced the upgrading of their relations to the level of strategic partnership.
The announcement was made during a meeting between President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni at the Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
During the meeting, the two sides announced a “Declaration of Intent” to strengthen cooperation between the United Nations Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP28) and climate action, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in energy transition projects between ADNOC and Italian energy group Eni for sustainable development initiatives.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in the fields of emission reduction, new energy technologies and low-carbon solutions.
It also helps strengthen the long-term strategic partnership between the two companies, promote energy security and accelerate low-carbon economic and industrial growth.
Areas of cooperation include reducing carbon emissions with a focus on carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies, improving energy efficiency, co-investing in green hydrogen, and renewable and clean energy.

The UAE and Italy share common goals, including achieving sustainable development and economic growth, strengthening cooperation with the international community, prosperity and stability, and the traditional values ​​of peace, tolerance, human fraternity, coexistence, dialogue and openness.
This strategic partnership will allow the UAE and Italy to work together to broaden and deepen their vision of cooperation in areas of common strategic interest, including political, diplomatic, international, economic and trade cooperation, as well as cooperation in the areas of direct investment and Partnerships, including healthcare and sustainable development, food and water security, industrial and advanced technology cooperation, defense and climate change, renewable energy and clean technology, energy security and transition, education, culture, people-to-people exchange, sports and others important areas. “
