UAE: Kateb Maktub wins cash prize in new Wikiman contest

[ad_1]

The latest competition aims to introduce Arabic literature and Arabic authors to the English-speaking global community by increasing the number of articles on Wikipedia. Contest winners are eligible for cash prizes of $500 for first place, $400 for runner-up and $300 for third.

The competition is divided into two categories and will be judged by a panel of experts and certified editors from the Wikimedia community. The first category (Experts) is for Wikipedia users who registered on the platform at least four months before the start of the competition (July 18) and edited 500 articles during the competition.

The second category (beginners) is for users who registered less than four months before the competition and edited fewer than 500 articles during the competition.

For the convenience of participants, the user group has compiled a list of well-known Arabic authors such as Ahlam Basharat and Ahmed Qandil, as well as Arabic titles such as Memory of the Flesh. Contributors have 24 hours from the time the author is selected to upload the article to Wikipedia to ensure there are no duplicates. Contributors also have the option to recreate existing Arabic articles in English.

To date, Kateb Maktub has managed to increase the number of pages on Wikipedia by over 500%.
