UAE: ‘Last day of summer’, heavy rain and hail hit parts of the country – News

Heavy rain and hail battered parts of the UAE for the third day in a row on Thursday. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) reported freezing rain and heavy showers in Shawka, Ras Al Khaimah.

According to astronomical calculations, today is the last day of summer. Starting tomorrow, the country will transition into autumn.

The NCM has issued a code red alert for parts of the country on Thursday:

Authorities also reported moderate to light rain in parts of Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain.

Storm Center, a weather-related social media handle, posted a video of the heavy rain in Shawka:

Heavy rain fell in three emirates on Wednesday. Heavy rain hit Murqquab in Dubai, Shawka in RAK and Mleiha and Madam in Sharjah. That day, Malachite in Al Ain fell off the ice.
