Abu Dhabi, UAE: In line with the UAE’s 2050 net zero emissions and the UAE’s direction towards sustainable economic development and industrial decarbonisation, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology is hosting high potential technology start-ups with a focus on sustainability and Participate in the startup competition launched before COP28.

The competition invites transformative start-ups seeking to make a global impact to showcase and promote new innovations and technologies, and offers them the opportunity to learn from some of the best and brightest in sustainability, manufacturing and technology. The competition will also offer startups the opportunity to collaborate with various industry partners to further develop and deploy their technology in the UAE.
The Make it in the Emirates Startup Competition aims to empower forward-thinking technology start-ups to transform and green existing industries through groundbreaking sustainability-related innovations, while also planting the seeds for future green industries.
The competition was held at the UAE Forum from 31 May to 1 June and was open to only 24 start-ups from around the world. Applications are welcome from start-ups across industries with a focus on sustainability, decarbonisation and digitalization.
Tariq Al Hashimi, Director of Advanced Technology Adoption and Development, Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: “We live in an era where start-ups have the power to disrupt entire industries and rewrite the script. problems that offer promising solutions. However, access to funding and other enablers remains a huge challenge for start-ups around the world. That is why the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology is using the Make it in the Emirates Forum as a platform for promising The technology-driven, sustainability-focused companies provide a stage to pitch, learn and network at one of the region’s largest and best-attended industrial investment events.
Al Hashimi added: “Startups participating in the competition will be able to gain unique investment and partnership opportunities, as well as access to a range of incentives offered by the UAE’s advanced technology ecosystem. The Ministry is committed to supporting companies of all sizes, as we create part of the mission of industrial and technological ecosystems to generate inclusive and sustainable economic growth.”

The 24 start-ups will initially be selected from a pool of submissions based on their demonstrated innovation, their disruptive potential, their scalability and sustainability, as well as their marketing potential, competitive advantage and positive social impact out.
The judging panel will include representatives from Aspire, EDGE Group, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Institute of Technology Innovation, Dubai Industry City, Emirates University and Strata.
The competition is one of several initiatives launched under the Emirates umbrella. Make it in the Emirates aims to attract investors, industrialists and innovators to the UAE to benefit from the country’s competitive advantages.
In 2022, MoIAT launched its inaugural Make it in the Emirates forum, which attracted around 1,800 stakeholders, including investors from around the world. The forum resulted in offtake agreements worth AED110 billion, with national companies committing to source more than 300 products from local suppliers to support their future growth plans.
The second edition of the Make it in the Emirates Forum, taking place at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre, aims to build on this success and will attract great interest and attendance from both within and outside the region.

About the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology
