UAE launches ‘We Stand Together’ initiative

ISLAMABAD: In a humanitarian spirit, hundreds of volunteers from all seven states of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have joined the “We Stand Together” initiative.

As part of this initiative, 1,200 tons of food, health and general items, including 30,000 food parcels, have been delivered to flood-affected households in Pakistan. The UAE was one of the first countries to provide emergency support to people affected by the floods and has sent emergency relief supplies to Pakistan.

Emirati nationals gathered at three different locations across the country, including the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Dubai Expo City and Sharjah Expo Centre, to pack rescue kits, according to UAE media.

The “We Stand Together” initiative was launched by the Emirates Red Crescent Society (ERC), Dubai Cares and Sharjah International Charities in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Community Development (MoCD) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), with support from other UAE Nine humanitarian organisations including Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity, Big Heart Foundation, Dar Al Ber, Humanitarian City International, Emirates Water Aid Foundation (Suchya, UAE), Sharjah Charity House, International Charity Organisation and Emirates Charity Association.

The UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al-Zaabi, also joined the volunteers of the “We Stand Together” initiative to collect relief items, including 30,000 food parcels for 1,200 tonnes of food.

The food supply includes non-perishable items such as flour, rice, lentils, oil, and hygiene kits, which contain essential toiletries for women and children, such as diapers, sanitary pads and soap, for flood victims in Pakistan.

ERC Secretary-General Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi praised the role of volunteers in the “We Stand Together” initiative to reduce the humanitarian impact of rains and floods in Pakistan.

He also acknowledged the role played by a coalition of 12 humanitarian organizations in relief and relief initiatives. Dr Tariq Al Gurg, CEO and Vice-Chairman of Dubai Cares, said: “The UAE has a long history of supporting human crises and the huge success of the ‘We Stand Together’ national volunteering initiative clearly reflects the country’s Humanitarian values.

Abdullah Sultan bin Hadim, CEO of Charity International Sharjah, said: “They offered their commitment to flood-affected people in friendly Pakistan during the event by preparing a rescue kit. This initiative reflects the diverse The values ​​of collaboration across industries.”

“This initiative to support people affected by the disaster also reflects the values ​​of the late UAE founder Sheikh Zayed, whose foundation was built on donations. We have inherited these values ​​from generation to generation, reaching out to those in need around the world. people and those affected to lend a helping hand,” Kadim added.
