Individuals posing as government employees or public servants could face up to five years in prison, the State Attorney’s Office confirmed.

The Public Prosecution released a video on its social media platform to clarify the consequences of posing or pretending to be a job and providing a false job description.

The public prosecution agency stated that according to Article 299 of Decree No. 31 of 2021 promulgating the “Criminal Law”, anyone who pretends to be a public official shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years and shall be sentenced to the same penalty. Anyone who interferes with public work or services or conduct for unlawful purposes or to obtain any kind of advantage for himself or others shall be punished.

A person who impersonates a public security organ or police officer and commits one of the crimes mentioned above shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than five years.
