The 42.2km marathon starts at 6am on King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street next to the Adnoc headquarters building (closed until 9am on 17 December).
The UAE’s Al Fursan aerobatic team will also perform a dazzling aerial display at the opening ceremony. Overhead crews will paint the sky with smoke trails in green, white, black and red.
Thereafter, athletes will cross Bateen Street and proceed to Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street (closed from 5am to 9am).
The marathon will cover monuments such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Wahat Al Karama at the 20km mark (closed until 9.30am) before passing through Zayed Sports City (8am-9.50am).
Athletes will be blocked in two phases from 6.10am to 11am and 6.15am on the 25km to 35km stretch of Sultan bin Zayed First Street, also known as ‘Muroor Road’ to noon.
The marathon briefly passes through the intersection section of Zayed First Street (also known as Electra Street) and has a total length of 42.2 kilometers.
The Marathon Relay – where two runners each run 21.1km – and the 10km, 5km and 2.5km categories are also part of the competition.
