A UAE man has been sentenced to three months in prison for illegally adopting a child and concealing his identity.
The situation came to light after an 8-year-old quadriplegic girl with cerebral palsy died of heart and respiratory failure from complications of the disease.
According to the Khaleej Times, the Eastern European chief said in his testimony that he took the girl six years ago after his colleagues asked him to take care of her.
The defendant said his colleague explained that without information on her parents or legal guardians, he disappeared after placing her in his care.
He then hired a babysitter to look after the girl who couldn’t move or talk, and she responded by moving her eyes, laughing or crying.
He added that she knew English, Farsi and Russian.
The incident happened in June when the nanny called the hospital after the girl’s temperature rose, but she died before medical help could arrive.
The defendant was not at home at the time of the incident and reported the incident to the police immediately upon arriving home.
The forensic report indicated that the death was of natural cause.
