He withdraws the money they have saved as a couple to secure the future of their children
A man withdrew Dh540,000 from his children’s bank accounts after divorcing his wife, their mother.
He has been ordered to return the money to his ex-wife.
The woman has filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of withdrawing money she had saved for her child’s future, court documents said.
She said her ex-husband opened an account for her children, depositing Dh2,500 a month. She added that she was also depositing her savings, which had reached Dh540,000.
The couple later separated due to irreconcilable differences.
After the divorce, the man took the money out of the account and closed it. When the woman asked him to return the money she had saved, he refused.
The Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Court ordered the father to return Dh540,000 to his ex-wife after submitting copies of the transfer and other evidence.
In his ruling, the judge said the man had no right to withdraw cash saved by his ex-wife for the children without her ex-wife’s consent.
The court also ordered him to pay his ex-wife’s legal costs.
