A medical expert in the UAE stressed the importance of laboratory medicine, as 80% of doctors’ decisions depend on laboratory results. This increases the need to permanently upgrade the lab.
Failure to ensure laboratory physicians are familiar and equipped with modern testing and diagnostic methods can lead to negative outcomes reflected on patients, physicians and laboratories, said Dr. Rania Badir, Executive Medical Director of Abu Dhabi-based Life Diagnostics Laboratories.
“Innovations in laboratory technology, including new tests and advancements in equipment and testing technology, make testing more efficient and automated,” she said at the 2022 AACC Middle East Conference at the Grand Hyatt Dubai.
Experts point out that laboratories and clinics should implement the latest laboratory testing methods, technologies and data-driven approaches in the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical stages of sample processing.
“Lab workers must have the skills to perform different clinical laboratory tests using modern technology,” Badir said.
Personalized medicine and molecular biology have seen tremendous growth in the laboratory world over the past five years, said Dr. Hisham Shams, Member of the Scientific Committee of the AACC Middle East Conference.
“We expect that further advances in laboratory medicine over the next five years will focus on the development of diagnostic devices that will enable patients to perform a range of procedures and perform a large number of analyses at home,” he said.
Shams explained that one of the most important challenges facing laboratory medicine around the world today is the lack of qualified cadres who can undertake advanced laboratory work.
“The approval criteria for tools used to conduct laboratory tests need to be standardized so that the number and results of tests do not vary from one laboratory to another,” he added, adding that the existence of reference measurements for samples is considered an extension .
The two-day conference was organized by Abu Dhabi-based Life Diagnostics in partnership with the American Association for Clinical Chemistry AACC.
Attended by physicians, laboratory supervisors, laboratory managers, medical technicians, etc., the conference focused on the latest technological developments in the field of medical laboratories, as well as the latest technologies for diagnosing and selecting appropriate treatments based on a patient’s genetic fingerprint. Greatly promoted the development of medical laboratories. Helps ensure optimal response to treatment and improve patient quality of life.
Experts discuss ways to integrate laboratory management strategies that enhance workflow and support accurate and efficient testing to improve treatment decisions and patient outcomes.
