As the UAE prepares to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day, we feature three Emirati women – Mariam Al Dhaheri, Sara Al Mahmoud and Nada Al Aydaroos – as they promote the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi’s largest cultural and artistic purpose countries) played an integral role in the country.
The Emiratis spoke about their journey at Louvre Abu Dhabi, their role and how the museum has grown over the years since it officially opened in 2017.

For Mariam Al Dhaheri, communicating with the various audiences of the museum is one of her favorite roles.
The medieval-focused curatorial assistant started working at Cultural Destinations in January 2015 after graduating with a degree in Communication and Media Sciences from Zayed University in Abu Dhabi. For the first six years, she was mainly engaged in public relations.
“I join the curatorial team in September 2021 while pursuing a Masters in Art History and Museum Studies at the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi, applying my skills and knowledge to the departments of science, curation and collection management,” she said.
“As you travel through galleries, through time and space, the onus is on the storyteller. My journey has evolved from the way I tell this story, being a communicator for a variety of audiences is one of my favorite parts of my job One. The greatest privilege, however, is interacting with the artwork. Seeing them for the first time, researching, and finally, sharing their many stories,” said the Emiratis.
Al Dhaheri, who worked with the Chief Curator to conceive and implement the artwork on display and to expand the loan agreement, said: “It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the opening ceremony in 2017 and witness a historic moment in Abu Dhabi’s cultural development. “
One of Al Dhaheri’s most memorable moments was meeting UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and French President Emmanuel Macron during the opening of the gallery.
Historically, Emirati women have contributed greatly to the development of arts and culture, from opera to visual arts, and will continue to do so.
Talking about how the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s exhibition/exhibition has changed since its opening and people’s vision for the future, Al Dhaheri said that, as part of an intergovernmental agreement, the loans to their 13 French cooperative museums will gradually be replaced with permanent collect.

A number of new collections are also currently on display for visitors to enjoy, including a Sapi-Portuguese oliphant (1490-1530) from Sierra Leone; a nautilus (1561) from China and Flanders; Ritual axe of Caledonian Karnak culture (19th century).

The museum’s senior loyalty program officer, Nada Al Aydaroos, oversees individual donations and focuses on the membership program. Her responsibilities include creating a community of devoted museum enthusiasts and engaging them through a variety of events.
Talking about her journey at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Al Aydaroos said she was lucky enough to join one of the museum’s internship programs ahead of its opening in 2017.
“As part of an important intergovernmental project, I had an eye-opening view of the cultural world and when I started this journey at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, I knew immediately that this was where I wanted to work. Since then I have There was no turning back,” she said.
“I manage the membership program, working with almost all departments of the museum – developing policy, procedures, events, research and content. As my career has grown, I have taken on greater responsibility to launch new membership programs – the overall goal It’s about inspiring and nurturing the next generation of art and culture lovers,” said Al Aydaroos.
Al Aydaroos’ favourite job is to visit the Arab world’s first general museum “backstage”. “I love it! Knowing the full story and the details behind it motivates me to do more, it reminds me of why I’m here and why I love what I do,” she said.
The Emiratis said it was an honour to be part of the team that helped open the first museum of its kind in the region. “Now, nearly five years later, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is considered one of the modern urban wonders of the world, and I am proud to be able to raise awareness and build a monumental institution and part of the cultural landscape in Abu Dhabi Loyalty,” she said.
Since being at the Louvre Abu Dhabi a few days before its opening, Al Aydaroos has seen visitors from all over the world visit the museum and view her projects. “I had the opportunity to create a community of art lovers in Abu Dhabi. “I will not forget the picnic we had at the Museum Park at the beginning of the year – seeing so many people – families, children and teenagers – come together at A place to enjoy yourself, it’s really inspiring. “
She said they focused on three main pillars: awareness, engagement and outreach to create a committed community of museum members. ‘The arts, crafts, exhibitions and events at Louvre Abu Dhabi combine to tell a shared human story that transcends differences in culture, time and place. My role is to bring this vision to life and create meaningful experiences for our members.
The museum engages its members in all its activities and curates exclusive “moments” and events for them, including curatorial talks, tours and exhibition previews.

She said her journey with Louvre Abu Dhabi began when she read the project announcement and saw a rendered photo of the museum’s iconic dome. in this institution,” she said.
“Years later, in 2015, the museum launched its first Louvre Abu Dhabi Ambassador Program, and I had the opportunity to join the Department of International Affairs as an intern to assist with the opening of the museum. Early 2018.”
The Emiratis officially joined the team as auditorium programming officer and was responsible for developing the foundations of the cultural programming unit into what it is today. With her background in events and love of culture, UAE has been able to launch film screening series, talk series, public events and many performances and installations.
Currently, Al Mahmoud leads the creation of cultural projects (such as film screenings, performances, conferences, symposia, etc.) that are linked to the museum’s content and that interact with the public. My favorite aspect of her work is that it connects her with the public, gives her the opportunity to hear what they want, and provides them with experiences they will always remember.
“I am proud to be involved in the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi and have been able to execute over 160 projects over the past 5 years, including workshops and conferences, performances and concerts, film screenings and public events such as yoga and leather rowing,” she said.
“One of my greatest accomplishments has been to serve as team leader for the Innovation Acceleration Programme at Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture (DCT) in 2021 and won the first place with four brilliant team members. I passed the “Royal” The Secret Evening “immersive production brought our winning idea to life, and the production will now be a major annual experience linked to our temporary exhibition.”
Al Mahmoud said she was proud to be one of the few Emirati women who had such a huge impact on Emirati culture.
Some of the major cultural shows that have had a bigger impact on the public include Arabian Road, Battle of Style, Electronic Night, Royal Secret Soiree and Retro Blast, she said. more. With the museum’s 5th anniversary coming this November, her team has many more exciting events to start planning.
