first arab mission to the moon

With the UAE Moon Mission, MBRSC achieved its ambitious goal of designing and building the world’s most compact rover and became the first UAE and Arabian rover to reach lunar orbit ahead of iSpace’s HAKUTO-R lander attempt car. These achievements are significant for a country’s first lunar mission and underscore the UAE’s commitment to advancing space exploration.

The Rashid rover integrated into iSpace’s HAKUTO-R lander successfully launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Dec. Launch site (SLC-40) lifted off. ELM marks the UAE’s first lunar mission, making the UAE the first Arab country to land on the lunar surface.

The Rashid rover was built to traverse and explore the lunar surface in a unique configuration. The rover weighs about 10 kilograms, is about 80 centimeters high, is about 53.5 centimeters long, and is about 53.85 centimeters wide.

MBRSC collaborates with 10 international entities and 4 UAE entities on the scientific program of the UAE lunar mission. Working with nearly 40 scientists and researchers, MBRSC developed the main instruments on the Rashid rover, the optical camera, the microscopic imager and the Langmuir detector.
