UAE MoIAT hosts Industry 4.0 Champions Networking Conference

The UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) recently hosted the second annual meeting of the Industry 4.0 Champions Network at the World Government Summit, bringing together CEOs of 18 major national and global companies.

The session was chaired by Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, who commended the Champions’ efforts in supporting the digitization of the industrial sector, emphasizing the importance of using these efforts to lead the way towards net zero.

She invited members to join the Industrial Sustainability Alliance led by the ministry to drive the deployment and development of green technologies to accelerate sustainable industrial growth.

The alliance aims to highlight and facilitate the deployment of emerging green technologies; showcase industrial sustainability best practices and flagships in the UAE’s industrial sector, and provide a platform for dialogue and exchange among policy makers, global technologists and industry.

Key activities of the coalition will include green tech exhibits to raise awareness of the benefits of deploying these technologies in industrial operations; sustainability training for industrial workforces to instil efficiency, waste management and circularity in production processes concepts; policy dialogue and knowledge exchange on industrial sustainability; and technical support for developing sustainable development roadmaps through the Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI).

In addition to integrating green technologies into industrial operations, the alliance aims to support the development of new technologies to address the climate challenge. This will include providing the support necessary to accelerate and scale greentech start-ups, and incorporating climate-specific challenges into crowdsourced innovative solutions.

Al Amiri said: “COP28 is taking place in the UAE later this year and the industry sector is committed to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 initiative. We will be working with a network of Industry 4.0 champions to showcase their pioneering efforts to transform the UAE into a hub of sustainable industry and advanced technology Efforts. Technology and sustainable development are closely linked and we can only unlock the full potential of technology through partnership and collaboration, which is why we have formed this alliance. It is all in line with the ministry’s plan to infuse technology in industrial production, thereby reducing the carbon footprint”

The meeting also discussed the achievements and progress of Champions Network programs and initiatives, including the launch of the first Industry 4.0 support center in partnership with EDGE Group, and participation in more than 20 knowledge sharing sessions, hackathons, apprenticeship programs and more than 50 technology and sustainability project.

Members were also briefed on the Technology Transformation Initiative and the recently launched Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI) to identify their role in driving these initiatives with the Ministry.

Members of the network also used the meeting to discuss engagement and participation in the UAE Forum and COP28, which the UAE will host later this year.

WGS was attended by executives from Etisalat, Schneider Electric, Siemens, ADNOC, Strata, Du, Microsoft, IBM, EDGE, Huawei, Ericsson, SAP, Aveva, EGA, CISCO, Unilever and Honeywell, who discussed avenues for collaboration, mutual opportunities, and best practices.

The Champions Network was launched under Action 300 Billion as a key pillar and enabler of the Technology Transformation Initiative. It consists of a group of leading companies exchanging experience and knowledge with the aim of promoting the adoption of advanced technologies in the industry and exchanging best practices for sustainable development. – trade arab news agency
