Tens of thousands of Al Sajaa camp residents headed to the volleyball courts in nearby Labor Park.

Shortly after their Tarawi prayers, they were queuing for a free vitals check.

Sharjah’s Life Pharmacy and Labor Standards Development Authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, organized health camps for residents of industrial areas.

Authorities held the camp to celebrate World Health Day by offering workers free health checks.

Attendees line up, register at the entrance, and move to four counters where pharmacists check their blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol and body mass index.

“When we leave our homes and come here to support our families, we forget about our health. Camps like this make us think that we have to take care of our health. Praise God, I know I’m in good health,” said Asja with friend said Ubaidullah, a foam glass insulation worker who came with De and Sunil.

Life Pharmacy provided good packs and food boxes for breaking the fast the next day to the workers who participated in the camp. “Apart from our health checks, this box helps me feel energized throughout the day at work. I get a Moringa tablet and a box of vitamin D capsules that will give me energy during Ramadan,” says Abhi, a construction worker Abdul Khair said.

“From this camp, we get free medical advice and medicines. These camps make sure we get healthcare at the right time before a minor health problem becomes serious,” said Haseebullah Khan, a mason.

Inamullah Sheikh, regional manager of Life Pharmacy, said the camp is being held daily across all emirates for the next six days.

“More than 3,000 residents had their vital signs checked. Most of them had blood pressure and blood sugar levels within the specified range,” Inamullah said.

But if these people’s results are above or below the prescribed range, volunteers instruct them to undergo comprehensive physical examinations at their pharmacies and medical clinics at a discounted price.

“We are happy that blood sugar levels and blood pressure are normal. But some of them may need care. We have taken down their contact details and asked them to visit one of our stores,” said Waseem Akram, Regional Manager of Life Pharmacy.

Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, chairman of the Labor Standards Development Authority, said such camps had been organized for the past five years. “Every year, we encourage labor and workers to check their vital signs,”

“This free medical camp was set up to raise awareness among workers to get basic healthcare services or learn about the diseases they suffer from. Such events will raise awareness about the risk of diabetes and stress diseases among workers,” Al Qaseer added.
