The UAE is known as the social media capital of the world, as almost all residents in the country have a Facebook account.
“The UAE tops the list of social media capitals in the world with a near-perfect score of 9.55 out of 10. The UAE has 8.2 social media platforms per capita, tied for third in the world with the Philippines. The UAE also has the highest percentage of Facebook users at over 100% ,” said Proxyrack, which provides proxy and residential VPN services.
According to the World Population Review, the number of Facebook users registered in the UAE exceeds the country’s population, the study found.
The UAE is followed by Malaysia/Philippines with scores of 8.75, Saudi Arabia (8.41), Singapore (7.96), Vietnam (7.62), Brazil (7.62), Thailand (7.61), Indonesia (7.5 ) and Hong Kong (7.27) ).
The study also ranked the UAE as the most connected country in the world with a score of 7.53 out of 10, followed by Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Argentina, Vietnam and Taiwan.
However, when it comes to the best internet access, the UAE ranks fourth behind South Korea, Hong Kong and Denmark.
The study revealed that UAE consumers spend an average of 7 hours and 29 minutes per day on the Internet, ranking them 13th globally.
Internet usage has increased in the UAE and globally in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, as more people work from home and many businesses choose to engage with customers virtually to be more cost-effective.
South Africa topped the list with an average usage time of 9 hours and 38 minutes per day.
