The day reflects global recognition of the nation as an example to shape the future
The UAE will celebrate its 51st National Day on 2 December. On the same day, the world will celebrate the country’s foresight as it marks the second World Futures Day. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated the day as UAE National Day last year. It reflects global recognition of the UAE as a role model for shaping the future.
World Futures Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of preparing for the future. It seeks to strengthen global cooperation to shape a better tomorrow for future generations.
The initiative aims to increase long-term resilience through a futuristic and anticipatory approach, including strategic foresight, promoting future preparedness and proactive decision-making for sustainable development for future generations.
The day was unanimously adopted by the outcome of the 41st session of UNESCO in Paris in November 2021.
The UAE is firmly focused on the future. The country’s leaders recently launched the “We UAE 2031” vision during the government’s annual meeting. The idea is for all government entities and agencies to collaborate within a unified ecosystem.
It is a comprehensive national plan to shape the future of the UAE for the next decade and the next 50. It focuses on four pillars covering all sectors and fields, including economics, society, ecosystems and diplomacy.
Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Development and Future of the Government, said that the UAE has transformed its design approach and way of creating the future into an established culture. The country’s integrated work ecosystem revolves around the theme that the future belongs to those who can imagine, design and execute.
She added that World Futures Day embodies the UAE’s belief that shaping the future is a global mission that relies on integrated efforts.
