Buildings, malls, banks and institutions in Jakarta and Sumatra are illuminated in the colors of the national flag
While the country celebrated its 51st National Day in honor, Indonesia joined in the festivities, with several iconic landmarks in Jakarta and Sumatra displaying the colors of the UAE flag.
From the National Monument – one of the icons of the capital Jakarta – to government buildings, shopping malls, banks and institutions illuminated in red, green, white and black.
“Just as the UAE celebrated Indonesian Independence Day in August by displaying our national flag, we also wanted to celebrate this auspicious occasion by displaying the UAE flag in Indonesia. President Joko Widodo also spoke by phone with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed His Highness bin Zayed Al Nahyan made the call to congratulate the latter and best wishes to the leadership and people of the UAE,” said Husin Bakis, Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE.
Other landmarks include the Welcome Monument, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, National Cyber and Encryption Agency, Bank Central Asia, Taman Anggrek Shopping Mall, Telkom Indonesia Tower, INALUM Building and more.
The ambassador stressed that this gesture reflects the development of bilateral relations.
“It’s one of the ways to emphasize the closer bilateral relationship between our two countries. It’s a sign of respect and part of celebrating the close relationship between our two peoples.”
Additionally, Sinarmas, one of Indonesia’s largest multinational corporations, displayed the UAE flag at 35 locations in Jakarta and Tangerang, Java.
“I sincerely pray that Almighty God bestows His blessing on the UAE and its leaders and grants them prosperity, peace, progress and mercy. May the relationship between Indonesia and the UAE become strong,” Bagis added.
